After 11 rounds and with the championship on its summer break, the Briton is only in third place in the standings, 59 points behind Kimi Antonelli, the leader, and nine behind Lewis Hamilton, the runner-up.
While his Italian teammate won six races, George triumphed in only two, besides suffering a series of bad luck. Therefore, for Steiner, everything is unfavorable for the British Mercedes driver.
“I would give him 5% [chance of title],” he said on The Red Flag podcast.
In Hungary, George had problems at the start and fell to the back of the pack, with the former Haas boss commenting on the case. “Mercedes took part of the blame, did they do that just to please him, or was it something real?” he said.
“I don’t know, but I think he was very lucky to come out unscathed and not be hit by anyone. For sitting so far forward, for so long while stopped… he was lucky,” he concluded.
