Aston Martin is betting on one of the biggest updates of the 2026 Formula 1 season, to try and change its course this year. The team will make it clear this weekend if the revised AMR26 can put them back in contention after a string of much-below-expected results.

The Silverstone team saw the gap to the midfield increase in recent races and decided to accelerate its development plans. The new package includes significant changes to the chassis and aerodynamics, ahead of the debut of the new Honda power unit, scheduled for after the August break.
Mike Krack, Aston Martin’s trackside operations director, confirmed the extent of the new features introduced to the car: “I think Adrian (Newey) mentioned it some time ago, that the update is a significant aerodynamic evolution and a weight reduction,” he stated.
Despite the anticipation, Krack emphasized that it will take time to fully understand the behavior of the updated AMR26. According to him, the team will have to adapt quickly, without the possibility of conducting extensive comparative tests as happens during pre-season.
“When you bring substantial updates, it’s something the trackside team needs to learn as quickly as possible. We don’t have pre-season tests to do a few laps and comparisons. This places a lot of emphasis on data quality and understanding simulations. We don’t expect to extract everything perhaps already on the first track outing tomorrow,” he said.

The director also stated that the main objective is to put Aston Martin back in direct contention for positions: “The reason we are doing this is to compete, and we haven’t been competing in recent events. That’s what we need to get back to. Where we will be in this very competitive pack, we will see. I really can’t predict, but the point is to get back in the game, because before we weren’t in it,” he added.
Krack also sought to curb any interpretation that the update will be decisive for the team’s future. According to him, the project is part of a broader development plan, which will continue in the coming years under the current regulations.
“This will not be an all-or-nothing situation. We are realistic. We had a plan and we worked with it, and success and setbacks are part of the sport. We need to take other steps, and this is just part of the development strategy. I wouldn’t call this a decisive moment, it’s simply a development that needs to continue,” he concluded.
