F1: Verstappen is expected to remain at Red Bull, journalist points out

Max Verstappen is expected to remain at Red Bull for the 2027 season, according to an assessment by Ted Kravitz, a Sky Sports journalist. For the British reporter, the Dutch driver ran out of viable transfer options before the new Formula 1 cycle.

Kravitz stated that McLaren would be the only possible destination for Verstappen at the moment, but the Woking team is satisfied with its current duo, formed by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri: “I think the only destination for him at the moment is McLaren, and they have a difficult situation and are very happy with their two drivers. Lando Norris was, according to some assessments, the fastest driver at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. And if he hadn’t started 13th with an engine grid penalty, he could have challenged Leclerc and Antonelli for the win.”

The journalist explained that Piastri also remains comfortable in the team, despite recent challenges, maintaining a positive environment within McLaren. “Oscar Piastri has his own little problems, but he is still very happy with the team, and it is a harmonious environment. There is no room at McLaren. So that’s why I think Max will stay.”

Kravitz also ruled out Mercedes as a possibility for the four-time champion. Toto Wolff’s team has often been linked to Verstappen in recent years, but the journalist believes the team is satisfied with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. “Mercedes seems to think they are satisfied with Kimi Antonelli. They think he is probably as fast as Max Verstappen. It’s a strong statement, but that’s what they think. And they think George Russell is a good teammate for Antonelli for now.”

With that, Kravitz summarized the current scenario: “So it’s McLaren, apparently, or nothing, or staying at Red Bull, and that’s why I think Max will stay at Red Bull.”

Before the Belgian GP, Verstappen avoided commenting on his future and stated that he would only speak when he had something concrete to announce. Last season, the Dutchman confirmed at Hungaroring that he would remain at Red Bull for 2026.
