F2: Rafa Câmara dominates race at Spa with pole, victory and fastest lap

Brazilian Rafael Câmara closed the Spa-Francorchamps stage as the big name of the Formula 2 weekend, after securing pole position, winning the main race, and also setting the fastest lap with Invicta Racing.

“I think it was a good Sunday overall. We were able to execute everything well. I believe it was a very well-done job by all of us on the team. They did a good job the whole Sunday,” says Rafa, who reaches his fifth career win at Spa, including all the junior single-seater categories.

Rafa started from pole, but at no point was his life made easy by the rivals, needing to win duels on track with Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, Nikola Tsolov, and Noel Leon, showing good decision-making on restarts after safety cars and, especially, a strong pace after the red flag.

<p“A lot happened, with the red flag, we stopped (in the pits) and accelerated again. We had some doubts about what would happen, because the other rivals hadn’t stopped and we needed to advance. But we were very happy with what we did today and I’m sure we stayed focused on our work and were stronger,” adds Câmara, who is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy.

With sixth place in the Sprint on Saturday, plus points for victory, pole, and fastest lap, Câmara was the top scorer of the weekend and reaches 125 points, reducing the gap to the top two in the standings and remaining in third overall.

The next F2 stage will be held this coming weekend at Hungaroring, Hungary, from July 24 to 26.
