José Mourinho was one of the stars that brightened the Formula 1 paddock during the Spanish GP last weekend, closely following a sport he has been a fan of for some time.

Madrid is a short distance from the training center of the Spanish team Real Madrid, where the Portuguese coach works. In fact, Mourinho has already been present at several other stages over the years.
“I have been following F1 for some time and have been to a few races, but, of course, this is the first here [in Madrid],” he told the official F1 website.
“Since I work very close by, I followed the construction process every day, when arriving or leaving work; and, the closer we got to this day, the greater the excitement for everyone,” he continued.

Since Mourinho, who has been with teams like Manchester United, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Roma, shares a passion for football and Formula 1, what do the two worlds have in common and how are they different?
“You know, it’s enormous pressure for both. When it comes to high-level sports, we are always talking about immense pressure. But I feel that they [in F1] are one step ahead of us in the way they face big moments. [In football], I believe we close ourselves off too much, also because of tradition,” he said.
“These guys [the drivers] face enormous pressure, but before that [being in the car], they socialize, meet people, do a bit of public relations, and attend the press. I think we have to learn from them, the way they manage to stay relaxed and, half an hour later, be in the car fighting for their lives, because they take risks,” he concluded.
