McLaren has shown constant evolution since the Australian GP, and Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes, believes that the Woking team will soon catch up with the factory teams. This Friday (13), during the Chinese GP, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri qualified in the top five for the sprint race.

“Everyone has a different concept. McLaren too, without going into details, has made some decisions that are very different from ours when it comes to, for example, gear ratios or things like that,” Wolff said in an interview with Sky F1.
The Austrian maintains confidence in the customer team’s potential: “It’s the factory teams that are a bit ahead, but it’s only a matter of time. I have no doubt that McLaren is simply a formidable structure, and it won’t be long before they are back in the fight at the front.”
Wolff also highlighted that McLaren’s different strategic decisions could help it quickly close in on the top teams, taking advantage of the same hardware and software as the factory teams.
