Toto Wolff has spoken again about rumors of Mercedes’ interest in a minority stake in Alpine in Formula 1. The Austrian executive vehemently denied that the goal was to target Christian Horner.

Currently, there is a battle to secure a 24% stake in the French team – today, it is held by Otro Capital, which joined back in 2023. Those who have shown interest in the small slice are Mercedes and the former Red Bull boss, fired in 2025 after the Silverstone GP.
And despite the rumors, the Austrian executive dismissed the chance of acquiring a part of Alpine just to poke at Horner. “The fact that we are analyzing this stake has no connection with Christian,” he told PA Sport.

“And the idea that there is a rivalry between Christian and me over who buys a stake in Alpine is an invention. It would be very sad if that were a factor considered in the decision of whether or not to make this investment,” he continued.
“We are analyzing the situation from different perspectives and have not yet reached any conclusion. We want to know if it makes sense,” he added.
