Formula 1 may have a more balanced scenario at the Miami GP, according to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, who stated that his team’s initial advantage in the current season should decrease, with a more competitive grid after the calendar break.

The German team won the first three races of 2026 and comfortably leads the constructors’ championship, as well as occupying the top two positions among the drivers with Kimi Antonelli and George Russell. Even so, Wolff believes that the period without races allowed significant progress from the competitors.
Wolff highlighted that his own team worked to evolve, but expects a response from the rivals: “We used this break to honestly analyze the first races, fix weaknesses and continue evolving. We know our competitors did the same, so we expect a much closer grid in Miami,” he said.

Even with the good start to the season, Wolff emphasized that maintaining performance is essential. According to him, Formula 1 demands constant progress, and any stagnation can be costly given the rapid adaptation of other teams.
The executive also commented on the regulation changes coming into effect this weekend. The changes include adjustments in energy management and how cars use power, especially in qualifying sessions: “The changes respect the sport’s DNA and should improve the spectacle, allowing drivers to push to the limit,” concluded the Mercedes boss.
