Williams finished the Belgian Grand Prix of this Sunday’s Formula 1 (19) without points. In another difficult weekend in the season, Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz regretted the outcome at Spa-Francorchamps.

Albon crossed the finish line only in 15th place, never really managing to threaten the positions ahead and fight for championship points. “It was a frustrating day today. We had a good start and you begin to think you can keep up with the midfield pack, but our pace just dropped,” he said.
“We had a very clean weekend and a strong pace until qualifying, when we made some changes that affected our race pace today, leaving us with a rather slow car. We know other teams are evolving much faster than us and that our upgrade for Baku will probably not eliminate this gap, but we will do our best to find more performance,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sainz was penalized before the race and managed to gain ground during the 44 laps, but received the checkered flag only in 16th, far from the top 10. “It was a two-phase race today. We had to start 19th after a penalty for changing the ESME and suffered damage to the front wing on the first lap, when the pack bunched up at turn 1,” he said.

“Changing the front wing cost us extra time, but with the new wing, the car got much better; I kept a good pace until the end of the race, overtaking some rivals and reducing the gap to the cars ahead,” he added.
“In the end, we extracted everything we could from the car. Although we know the gap to the midfield pack is increasing and the upcoming upgrades will not completely fix this, we took good lessons that we can use going forward. Onwards to Hungary,” he concluded.
