Yuki Tsunoda maintained tenth place in this Sunday’s (6) Italian Grand Prix after the Formula 1 stewards decided not to apply any penalty for the situation that occurred before the restart in Monza. The Racing Bulls driver was investigated for a possible grid infraction but escaped a Stop and Go penalty.

On the race restart after Charles Leclerc’s accident, Tsunoda arrived late to his spot after realizing he was entering the wrong position and ended up at an unusual angle. The situation led the race direction to order an extra formation lap, as they did not feel comfortable starting the race that way.
Racing Bulls argued that the car was not in a launch burn condition, as the front tires remained within the lines of the spot. They also highlighted that no other driver was affected and that Tsunoda was not the cause of the extra lap.

The stewards agreed with the arguments and understood that the extra formation lap resulted from the race director’s assessment, not from an action directly caused by the driver. Another decisive point was the lack of communication. The team and Tsunoda were not informed that they were considered responsible for the extra lap.
Therefore, the stewards decided not to apply the penalty or take any other action against the Japanese driver. The decision also recorded that the race director acted in good faith and with extreme caution.
