Gunther Steiner has received criticism from people close to Max Verstappen after criticizing the four-time Formula 1 world champion for his statements about the 2026 regulations. Dani Juncadella, the Dutchman’s teammate in GT, publicly challenged the comments of the former Haas boss.

The former executive had suggested that the driver might not be so critical of the current category regulations if he had been dominating the championship since the start of this technical cycle. In fact, he pointed out that if he had won the Canadian GP, he would say that the rules are the best ever seen.
Juncadella used social media to defend Verstappen and reminded that the driver’s concerns about the regulations are not recent. According to the Spaniard, Max had already been warning about possible problems since 2023, long before the more intense discussions about the future of the category.

“This guy has been warning everyone about the new regulations since 2023, but the head of the consortium that acquired the Tech3 team in MotoGP knows better,” he wrote in a post accompanied by an ironic tone.
The Spanish driver’s response was not the only one provoked by Steiner’s statements. Other names linked to Verstappen’s circle also spoke out against the former executive’s comment, including Jos Verstappen, the Red Bull driver’s father.
