Lance Stroll is expected to receive a grid penalty for the Spanish Grand Prix in Formula 1 after Aston Martin installed a series of new power unit components on the AMR26. The confirmation came in a technical report released this Saturday.

The Canadian’s car started using the fifth internal combustion engine, the fifth turbo, and the fifth MGU-K, as well as the sixth energy storage unit and the seventh PU-ANC. All these components exceed the allowed quantity per driver.
According to the regulations, the first time the quota of a certain element is exceeded, a ten-place grid penalty is applied. From the second occurrence for the same component, the penalty becomes five places. With several changes above the limit, Stroll is expected to suffer a significant penalty for the first F1 race in Madrid.

The decision comes after a weekend start marked by reliability concerns for Aston Martin in Madring. Stroll faced a possible battery issue at the end of Friday’s TL2.
Fernando Alonso also had difficulties on Friday. The Spaniard suffered a clutch problem during TL1 but managed to return to the track and resume his program normally in the second free practice session.
