Formula 1 is experiencing a rise of Kimi Antonelli, but George Russell is not worried. The British driver believes he can still turn the situation around throughout the season.

At the moment, the difference in the championship is twenty points between the teammates at Mercedes, reflecting Antonelli’s dominant streak, winner of the last three races. Still, Russell bets on his own experience to react and get back into the title fight.
After finishing only fourth at the Miami GP, Russell acknowledged his teammate’s good form but made a point of downplaying the impact of this on the championship: “Clearly Kimi is in a very good moment now, and the pace is with him,” he said. He then reinforced his confidence: “But I have enough experience in championships I have won to know how this moment changes throughout the year,” he said, referring to his titles in the junior categories.

The Briton also highlighted that he is not focused on the current deficit in the standings: “To be honest, I’m not even thinking about it,” he added.
Russell also assessed that his performance in the early stages was stronger than the results indicate: “In the first three races, I had the performance to win. This weekend, definitely not. I could be here now with three very different results, and that would just be an isolated case. But things happened differently in Japan and China, that’s F1 sometimes,” concluded the British driver.
