The Briton had a very positive stint in Shanghai. In the Sprint race, he secured the victory, while in the main race he had to fight a bit with the Ferraris, but finished on the podium for the second consecutive round in 2026, maintaining the championship lead.

“Firstly, congratulations to Kimi on his first F1 victory. He drove a fantastic race and it was incredible to be on the podium with him. I’m sure it’s a moment he will never forget and to achieve this with the team securing a 1-2 is fantastic,” said Russell.

“My own race wasn’t easy. I lost positions both at the start and at the restart after the Safety Car, as we struggled to warm up the hard tires. The Ferraris were fast, especially at the beginning, and we had to overtake them twice. They were fast in the right places and that made our job quite difficult. Fortunately, we managed to overtake them both times, but it cost us the chance to fight for the victory,” he continued.

“It has been a great way to start the season and we are definitely the team to beat at the moment. We faced a lot of pressure in these first two races and we need to keep pushing. The car is strong, so I’m looking forward to the next race in Japan,” he concluded.
