This decision comes amidst the expansion of the partnership with the F1 team, which was recently renewed for several years. Even with the layoffs, the collaboration between Oracle and Red Bull remains one of the most relevant and valuable on the grid.
Employee reports have already begun to emerge on social media following the announcement. Michael Shepherd, a senior manager at the company, stated on LinkedIn: “Senior engineers, architects, operations leads, program managers, and technical specialists are among the professionals let go.”
According to information published by Business Insider, workers from various countries, including the United States, India, Canada, and Mexico, received immediate layoff notifications via email at 6:00 AM local time. The measure is part of the company’s restructuring, which aims to further advance the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
Oracle has been the title sponsor of Red Bull Racing since 2022, a period in which the team won three drivers’ titles and two constructors’ championships. In February of this year, the partnership was renewed and expanded for several years, ahead of the 2026 season, with team principal Laurent Mekies highlighting the company’s role in an ‘extremely successful’ phase for Red Bull.

This collaboration between the two organizations goes beyond brand exposure. The team intends to use strategic agents based on artificial intelligence, in addition to Oracle’s cloud infrastructure, for the development of the new power unit that will be introduced in 2026 in partnership with Ford.
Furthermore, the company’s technology will also be applied in advanced race simulations and other team operations starting from the 2026 season. These resources are seen as fundamental to Red Bull’s competitive performance in the coming years.
The agreement between Red Bull and Oracle is considered the largest sponsorship contract in Formula 1, valued at over 100 million dollars. The value places the partnership at a similar level to the title sponsorship agreement between Ferrari and HP, reinforcing Oracle’s weight within the category.
