Oscar Piastri admitted concern about the next Mercedes update in Formula 1. Even after the progress shown by McLaren in Miami, the Australian believes the scenario could change again at the Canadian GP.

The British team brought an important update package to Miami and managed to reduce part of the gap to Mercedes in the constructors’ championship. During the Sprint weekend, McLaren scored three more points than their rival and reduced the lead to 86 points in the standings.
Despite this, Mercedes practically did not present any new developments in Miami. The team had previously indicated that it would focus its first major update of the season on Montreal, something that caught Piastri’s attention. “It will be interesting to see,” said the driver. “We need to understand where we will be on different types of tracks.”
The Australian highlighted that McLaren’s performance in the United States was above expectations, especially in the Sprint. “Getting a one-two in pure pace was a very big surprise for us. Things are working well,” he explained. According to him, the new MCL40 package delivered exactly the progress expected by the team and there is hope to maintain good performance also in Canada.

Even so, Piastri believes the situation could change quickly depending on the impact of Mercedes’ updates. “We expected the updates to be a good step forward, and they were. We hope they will be in Canada as well,” he said. “But, obviously, Mercedes didn’t bring much to Miami and they also have an update package for Canada, so we’ll have to wait and see how much that will be worth for them.”
While McLaren tries to keep reducing the rival’s advantage, Mercedes arrives buoyed by another victory from Kimi Antonelli. The Italian won for the third consecutive time in Miami and extended his lead over George Russell in the drivers’ championship.
