Sergio Pérez recalled the period when he was at Red Bull in Formula 1 and how he simply ‘had to accept’ that Max Verstappen received everything from the Austrian team.

The Mexican raced for four years on the team, arriving in 2021 and leaving at the end of 2024 after a campaign well below expectations. During the period, he played a key role as the second driver, constantly helping his Dutch teammate, who was clearly favored internally.
“Facing Max at Red Bull is the toughest challenge. I mean, even facing Max at any other team would be very difficult,” he said on the High Performance podcast.

“But facing him at Red Bull, with his team, his people, his environment, is complicated; you need the best in every area, and you simply don’t have that, you know?” he continued.
“While he has all the opportunities in terms of engineering, senior engineers, experienced engineers, everything is geared towards Max… But I already knew that before arriving, so I thought: ‘Look, I can complain or move forward with what I have,’ and that’s what I did. In the four years I was there, I kept the same engineering team. It’s something I’m immensely proud of,” he concluded.
