Lando Norris spoke about Oscar Piastri’s race at the Japanese GP last Sunday, 29. The 2025 Formula 1 season champion recognized that it was ‘unfortunate’ that the Australian was unable to win.

The competitor took first place on the first lap after a great start. In fact, the McLaren driver managed to stay in the lead until the pit stop phase of the race in Suzuka.
It turns out that moments after Piastri stopped, a safety car was deployed and gave the advantage to Kimi Antonelli. Therefore, for Norris, who finished fifth, it was a shame that the papaya team could not achieve its first victory in F1 2026.
“It was a good race on my part. Of course, it feels like it could have been better with Oscar finishing second. That’s very good for the team. He drove a great race and probably deserved to win, honestly, if it wasn’t for the safety car. A shame, it would have been nice to see Oscar win,” he said.

However, Norris highlighted how McLaren seems to be heading in the right direction. “The first few weekends weren’t that good, but this weekend was much better for us. We are on the right track, although we haven’t changed many things, and I hope we have some good news ahead,” he said.
“It’s already positive that we had such a strong race as we did here. So, positive points, some things we know we need to improve, but overall, a good day for McLaren,” he concluded.
