The 2027 Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1 will host one of the season’s Sprint races, and Lando Norris pointed out what will be the main challenge of the weekend in the Principality.

For next year’s calendar, the category announced a record number of Sprint races with ten in total – among them, Interlagos is back after being absent in 2026.
The reason Monaco was chosen is that it will have two qualifying sessions over the weekend, usually the main highlight of the event. And also with only one free practice session, Norris, winner on the streets of the Principality in 2025, believes it will be a challenge.
“Interesting, interesting. I think the main point is that this means we will have FP1 and qualifying on Friday, which represents the challenge, since, obviously, not much happens in the Sunday race or the Sprint,” he told Sky Sports F1.

“But I believe the challenge is precisely having only one practice session before going straight to qualifying; something that probably has never happened before in Monaco.”
“We will depend more on this year’s data and, obviously, it is harder for us drivers. There is not much time for gradual evolution, so you will probably have to take a bit more risk right from the start. That’s where you notice the difference between those who can feel comfortable, test things, and drive at 99% capacity, without reaching 103% or 104%, because in Monaco, when you exceed that limit, the race is over,” he concluded.
