Laurent Mekies praised the update package presented by McLaren at the Hungarian GP of Formula 1, but questioned whether the gains will continue on other tracks.

In Hungary, Lando Norris achieved his and the team’s first victory of the year. Among the novelties brought to the Hungaroring, a new floor and revised aerodynamics on the MCL49, all in search of improving performance on high downforce circuits.

“Yes, I think the package they brought certainly gave them a big leap. So, it is certainly impressive; we will see how it performs on a different track,” Mekies said when asked about McLaren.

“But, if I look only at Budapest and the leap they made, it is certainly something very impressive,” he added.
“I think it is the first race where we [Red Bull and McLaren] outperformed both Ferraris and both Mercedes so much, but I have to say that McLaren did a very good job with the pace they showed,” he concluded.
