Helmut Marko believes that Max Verstappen’s situation can change quickly, even with the atmosphere remaining tense amid criticism of the regulations and Red Bull Racing’s performance in the 2026 Formula 1 season.

The assessment of the former Red Bull consultant contradicts the words of the Dutch driver himself, who has shown frustration with the current rules and the team’s difficult start. For Marko, the scenario tends to improve as soon as the car becomes competitive again.
Verstappen openly criticized the 2026 regulations, calling them harmful to on-track battles and even suggested a loss of motivation, considering leaving the category. Red Bull’s performance worsened the situation, with only sixteen points scored in the first three rounds and the team in sixth place in the constructors’ championship.

Despite this, Marko stated that Red Bull has already identified flaws in the RB22 and is working on solutions to respond: “Red Bull identified some problems with the car and found solutions. As soon as the car becomes competitive again, Max’s pleasure will return and his mood will improve,” he said.
The former executive also indicated that possible future adjustments to the regulations could help change the scenario: “This will be even more evident if there are changes for 2027, because it is clear to everyone that there needs to be more real racing, and not just energy management,” Marko concluded, reinforcing the expectation of both technical and sporting evolution.
