Charles Leclerc is confused about Ferrari’s performance change in the last three Formula 1 rounds, especially after the team struggled with a very complicated Hungarian GP but impressed in Silverstone and Spa.

After lining up in third position on the grid at the Hungaroring, the Monegasque had a difficult start and dropped to fifth place. During the race, he was not really able to challenge for the win and finished fourth after benefiting from a 5-second penalty to teammate Lewis Hamilton.
After the race, when asked if he was satisfied with fourth place, Leclerc replied, “No, definitely not. It’s a disappointing weekend, and I think what stands out most to me, after the last three races, is that in those three races, there were two where we expected to struggle and we finished first and second.”

“In the race where we expected a good performance, we finished fourth and fifth. So, there is clearly a trend, and it’s not the case that a car is doing well just because he [Hamilton] is having an exceptional performance behind the wheel,” he continued.
“Both cars seem to have this tendency to perform well on weekends where we expect to have difficulties, and to suffer on those where we thought we would do well. It’s something we need to understand. It’s also true that with a good start today, the scenario could have been very different, because on a track like this, there aren’t many overtaking opportunities,” he concluded.
