The forced break in April on the Formula 1 calendar generated unexpected speculation involving Liam Lawson. The Racing Bulls driver reacted to rumors that he would compete in rounds of the Australian Supercars during the F1 race interval and denied any possibility.

This break in the calendar occurred after the cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia rounds, due to the ongoing war in Iran, opening space for some drivers to seek other activities to maintain competitive rhythm.
During this period, some names from the F1 grid took the opportunity to race in other categories or participate in tests. Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll competed in GT3 races, while Mercedes and McLaren drivers took part in one day each of testing with Pirelli tires for 2026, at the Nurburgring circuit.
Lewis Hamilton was also in action, carrying out two days of wet track testing with Pirelli in Fiorano with Ferrari. Franco Colapinto participated in a filming day with Alpine, and Ferrari planned a similar activity in Monza the following week.
Amid this scenario, speculation arose in Australia and New Zealand that Lawson would participate in Supercars rounds scheduled for the weekends of April 10 and 11, and also between April 17 and 19. However, the New Zealander stated that the information is unfounded.

“No. I landed in New Zealand and my phone was full of messages saying: ‘Liam, you’re going to race in Supercars next week.’ I was like: ‘I don’t even know I’m going to race in Supercars next week,’ so I really don’t know how everyone seemed to know that,” he told the press.
Despite dismissing the possibility, Lawson did not hide his interest in the category: “But it’s a very cool idea, it’s obviously a category I grew up watching, and I would love to do it at some point, for sure,” he added.
Lawson also stated that, for now, his full focus remains on Formula 1: “Obviously, when my life isn’t so focused on just one thing, maybe I can dedicate time to prepare, and that would be cool, but there’s no real truth to it,” concluded the Racing Bulls driver.
