The Las Vegas Grand Prix is closer to securing its place on the Formula 1 calendar until 2037. Last Tuesday (19th), the Clark County Commission unanimously approved a resolution recognizing the race as an “annual event,” allowing the continuation of the race on the traditional Thanksgiving weekend in the United States.

Las Vegas entered F1 in 2023 with an initial three-season contract. The agreement was extended until 2027 last year and, according to RacingNews365, there is still an option to extend until 2032. With the new vote, the path is open for an additional five years beyond that term.
During the meeting, the Commission approved an item “to approve, adopt and authorize the chairman to sign an amendment to the resolution recognizing the Las Vegas Grand Prix as an annual event.”

Despite support for the event, the setup and teardown of the track continue to generate complaints from residents and local businesses. The Commission chairman, Michael Naft, stated that the schedule needs to be shortened: “I support this, but there must be very clear parameters that the goal of more time is to condense the schedule,” he said.
“I believe there are clear things demonstrated by the work you and your office have done together with the organizers, which establish a path for a reduced schedule and reduced disruption, and it will be very important for the county to continue to maintain this focus.”
