Ayao Komatsu explained the criteria that a driver needs to meet to secure a seat at Haas for the 2027 Formula 1 season.

The American team has not yet confirmed either of the two names that will be on the grid in the upcoming championship. The team has been in the spotlight especially for Brazilian fans, as rumors point to Rafael Câmara replacing Esteban Ocon – Oliver Bearman renews contract.


Therefore, the executive stated that the main criterion the competitor needs to meet is speed. “I have always said that we choose drivers based on performance; therefore, performance absolutely comes first,” he pointed out.
“If two drivers have the same level of performance, then affiliations or the packages they have start to count. But we never hire someone who is three tenths slower just because they have ties with Toyota or Ferrari, or because they bring 5 million more. We are not going to do that; what matters above all is performance,” he continued.
When asked about when the drivers will be decided, Komatsu just said, “I don’t know; not next week, let’s say.”
