Brazilian Rafael Câmara may be very close to reaching Formula 1. According to information published by the Italian site Rossomotori.it, the Ferrari Driver Academy driver was chosen to represent Haas starting from the 2027 season, in a decision that reportedly had decisive support from Ferrari.

According to the publication, the decision was not simple. Yuki Tsunoda was considered the main candidate for the seat and had the backing of both the team principal, Ayao Komatsu, and partners from Toyota Gazoo Racing. However, Ferrari reportedly intensified support for Câmara’s candidacy, managing to convince Haas to opt for the Brazilian.
The choice would be supported by the recent results of the 2005-born driver. Câmara won the Formula Regional European title in 2024, won Formula 3 in his debut season with Trident, and in 2026, he is competing for the Formula 2 championship with Invicta Racing. Up to mid-season, he has one win, two podiums, and is in third place in the standings.

Also according to Rossomotori.it, Câmara’s arrival would cause changes at Haas. The trend would be the departure of Esteban Ocon, while Oliver Bearman would remain with the team. This way, the lineup would have, for the first time, two drivers from the Ferrari Driver Academy. The scenario would also allow Ferrari to monitor the development of the duo, since Charles Leclerc has a long-term contract and Lewis Hamilton remains as a main driver for the Italian team.
The publication also highlights that Câmara was born just three days before Bearman, a factor that would reinforce the comparison between the two talents, who had similar trajectories in the junior categories. As for Leonardo Fornaroli, despite recent titles and a private test with Haas, he is expected to continue as a reserve driver for McLaren in 2027, according to the Italian site.
