F1: Horner and Wolff compete for million-dollar stake in Alpine

The dispute for a share of Alpine continues to stir the backstage of Formula 1. Christian Horner and Toto Wolff remain the main candidates in the battle to acquire the 24% of the team currently linked to Otro Capital.

In January, Flavio Briatore revealed that the former Red Bull boss was negotiating directly with the American investment group, whose stake is valued at approximately US$ 750 million. Alpine is estimated at about US$ 3 billion, while Renault holds the remaining 76% of the operation.

Otro Capital leads a group of investors known in sports and entertainment, with names like Ryan Reynolds, Michael B. Jordan, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Shortly after the British executive’s interest came to light, information emerged that Wolff also started talks involving the purchase of the stake.

According to sources from RacingNews365, the Austrian from Mercedes presented a proposal together with the Breckley team. However, the offered amount was unattractive and considered low, and since then, there has been no new attempt. Still, the relationship between Alpine and Mercedes has strengthened this season, as the German manufacturer began supplying engines to the French team.

The possible alignment between Renault and Mercedes is seen positively within the French manufacturer, although a broader sharing of operations is not planned. Horner, for his part, would see the purchase as an opportunity to take an active role in Alpine’s decisions, including influence over drivers and team leadership, something he considered limited in his last years at Red Bull.
