Lewis Hamilton did not take any blame for the incident with Charles Leclerc at the first chicane right after the start of the Formula 1 Italian GP.

The two Ferrari cars were fighting for position right after the start of the race when they ended up touching, the seven-time champion going off track. A few laps later, the Monegasque lost the SF-26 and hit the protective wall, retiring.
After the race, Leclerc wanted to share the responsibility for the collision, saying that his teammate went too far in the first corner, then he did in the second. But the seven-time Formula 1 champion had a different opinion. “I was ahead at turn 2. At the apex, I was ahead; there was no side-by-side battle there,” he assessed.

“There’s not much to say about it. It was very bad for the team and obviously cost us many positions. Then, I just tried to reset and thought: ‘ok, I’ll try to make up ground.’ Obviously, we had to make the stop, but I think we probably chose the wrong tires. We will definitely talk about this internally,” he continued.
“I don’t race unfairly. I have always raced cleanly and fairly, always leaving space, so I don’t think they should worry about me. I joined the team looking to respect space and, without a doubt, without putting the team at risk, I maintain this stance, and that’s all I can speak for on my part. You need to talk to Fred [Vasseur] about the other side and the decisions made there,” he concluded.
