Lewis Hamilton may face a penalty after repeatedly ignoring an order from Ferrari during TL3 of the Spanish Grand Prix in Formula 1. The Briton crashed at the last corner of Madring and tried to return to the pits with the damaged SF-26.

Hamilton was on a fast lap when he entered the final corner too aggressively and hit the barrier, breaking the front wing. The accident caused an immediate red flag, but the seven-time world champion managed to reverse and leave the scene without apparent suspension damage.
In an attempt to bring the car back to the garage, however, the front wing began scraping the asphalt and got stuck under the front wheels, also causing a tire puncture. Ferrari then instructed Hamilton to stop the car.

The driver ignored the instruction on more than one occasion before finally immobilizing the SF-26. Besides missing the rest of TL3 and the important qualifying simulations, Hamilton now risks receiving a penalty for continuing on track with the damaged car.
The episode increases the sporting damage of the accident, as the Briton missed an important part of the preparation for the Spanish GP qualifying. The possible sanction also adds to the work Ferrari will have to repair the car after the impact at Madring.
