A radio message exchange that was not televised during the Formula 1 Hungarian GP revealed the moment Lewis Hamilton apologized to Ferrari after being overtaken by Max Verstappen at turn 1.

The seven-time world champion and the four-time world champion fought an exciting battle at the Hungaroring. The Dutchman managed to pass the Italian team’s duo at the start, but was later overtaken after a successful undercut on lap 13.
The Austrian team responded a lap later, returning to the track just behind the Brit. Then, he passed Lewis on lap 16 with a good move at turn 1, opening the way ahead of Ferrari.
A message exchange with the Maranello team revealed after the race showed that the seven-time F1 champion apologized for not being able to anticipate Max’s move.

After the undercut, Hamilton and his race engineer Carlo Santi congratulate each other on the work.
Hamilton: “Great job, guys.”
Santi: “Good job, Lewis.”
Hamilton: “Did you put the wing?”
On the next lap, Verstappen overtakes the Brit at turn 1, causing Hamilton to lament over the radio.
Hamilton: “Ah, I didn’t see him coming, guys.”
Then, after following Verstappen for a few laps, Lewis notices the Red Bull’s weakness on lap 19.

Hamilton: “He has no power on the straights.”
A lap later, he apologizes for being overtaken by Verstappen.
Hamilton: “Sorry for losing that position.”
