Haas finished the 2026 Italian GP of Formula 1 this Sunday (6) with a result below expectations, despite the progress shown throughout the weekend. Ollie Bearman finished 15th, while Esteban Ocon was 16th. Team principal Ayao Komatsu pointed out tire wear as the main problem faced in Monza.

“Obviously, a very disappointing Sunday after a positive Friday and Saturday. Our fundamental problem was much higher tire wear on both cars compared to our competitors; the degradation mechanism is very, very different,” said Komatsu,

Bearman also highlighted the lack of pace during the race. The Briton even advanced to ninth after the starts, but lost positions as the tires wore out: “I had a good start, both times, gained some positions – but after that, honestly, we just weren’t fast enough. It became clear to me from the first laps that I needed to push much harder than the others to keep up with them, and, in the end, my tires paid the price for that.”

Ocon had a similar assessment, although he valued the team’s work during the weekend: “In the end, I think we weren’t fast enough, but I believe we did a very good job this weekend, trying to maximize everything we had. We tried everything to get the most out of the car and mitigate our problems, there was solid work inside the garage.”

Komatsu also stated that the update introduced by Haas is working, but the team still needs to understand the inconsistency between the cars. “Yes, the update is working on both cars, it’s really much better, but, let’s say, in terms of uniformity between the cars, we still have inconsistency. It’s something we really need to understand deeply.”
