Haas left the Spanish Formula 1 GP with Esteban Ocon in 11th and Oliver Bearman in 16th, a result that frustrated the team after a race in which the car showed pace to fight for points. Ocon came close to the top-10, while Bearman finished the race after starting from the pit lane.

Ocon started 13th on Medium tires and gained two positions right on the first lap. After Lewis Hamilton’s retirement, he entered the top-10 and pitted on lap 14 during a Virtual Safety Car caused by a brake problem on Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin. With Hard tires, however, he was overtaken by Nico Hulkenberg and finished 11th.
“We are disappointed because we deserved much more, we deserved to be in the points today,” said Ocon. The Frenchman explained that the initial strategy was to get past the two Audis at the start, which he managed, but lost position during the sequence of pit stops. “We gave everything we had and I am proud of everyone. We went from a Q1 elimination to now fighting for points, so it is positive and encouraging for the upcoming races.”

Bearman, meanwhile, started the race from the pit lane after Haas installed new power unit components. He started on Hard tires, switched to Mediums on lap 34, and made a second stop on lap 44, returning to Hards before finishing 16th. “It was a tough weekend and I can only blame myself for that. The positive side is that I learned a lot and I won’t repeat that mistake,” he assessed.
Ayao Komatsu also regretted the 11th place but saw progress. The Haas team principal stated that the car, drivers, and operations worked well and attributed the loss to Audi to the equipment used during the stop. “The car’s consistency was there, without the problems we had previously, so we need to learn from this,” he said. Haas remains seventh in the Constructors’ Championship with 21 points.
