The German GP left the calendar after the 2019 edition, amid the expansion of the schedule to new markets. Before that, Hockenheim and Nürburgring alternated hosting the race due to the high costs involved in the early 2010s.

Domenicali highlighted the presence of important names linked to F1 in the country as one of the factors for the return of talks: “We cannot forget that we have Audi entering the business. We have great partners who have their headquarters in Germany,” he said. According to him, the country wants the category to consider a possible return in the medium term, regaining the relevance it previously had.

The executive also assessed that the German scenario is beginning to present interesting prospects for the category: “The new situation in Germany is starting to move in the direction that I potentially see in the future, being a very interesting market that will have a positive effect both on the media side and perhaps on the promoter side,” he added.

Despite the possibility, Domenicali made it clear that there is still no guarantee of a return. The last official edition of the German GP took place in 2019, although the Nürburgring circuit hosted a race in 2020, during the season affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, under the name of the Eifel GP.
