Formula 1 will have stricter oversight from now on, with the FIA introducing a new rule requiring cameras in the teams’ garages. The measure aims to prevent any irregular modifications to the cars during parc fermé conditions.

The change strengthens control over one of the most sensitive moments of the weekend, when car adjustments are highly restricted. With this, the entity tries to ensure technical equality among competitors before races and sprints.
The update was included in article B3.5.8 of the regulations, which now requires the presence of a dedicated steward for each car. “An inspection steward will be assigned to each F1 car, with the aim of ensuring that no unauthorized work is carried out,” states the new text.
Additionally, the FIA now requires a continuous visual monitoring system inside the garages. “A ‘Parc Fermé Camera’ will be assigned to each F1 car, which the competitor must install […] in a position directly above and with a view of the entire car,” the regulation adds.

In practice, all teams must keep the camera active and unobstructed during the competition period. The goal is to increase oversight capacity and reduce any possibility of interventions outside the rules established in parc fermé.
Despite the new requirement, the FIA has not yet publicly detailed how the installation and operation of these devices will be carried out. The expectation is that the technical procedures will be defined directly with the teams behind the scenes of the category.
