The validation is considered a milestone for the organizers of the future Spanish GP, scheduled for September 13, 2026. According to those responsible for the project, the works are progressing within the established schedule to compensate for previously accumulated delays, and the expectation is that all infrastructure will be ready in time for the race.

Despite recent rumors about possible construction problems, information obtained by Motorsport.com indicates that there is no real risk of work stoppage at the IFEMA Madrid complex. The approval obtained from the FIA and FOM represents another completed stage in the event preparation process.

Formula 1’s return to the Spanish capital comes after 45 years of absence. The project has a contract that guarantees the category’s presence in Madrid until at least 2035, ensuring a decade of races in the city.

Spanish GP F1 2026 - Madrid - Paving

The new circuit will be 5.47 kilometers long, with 22 corners and two tunnels. One of the most highlighted points of the track is the corner named “La Monumental”, designed to offer an additional challenge to drivers. The organizers expect the track design to favor overtakes and provide more competitive races.

Recently, Carlos Sainz became the first driver to drive the circuit after the paving was completed. Although he used a sports car, and not a Formula 1 single-seater, the Spaniard stated that the experience exceeded his expectations. Now, with the official approval from the FIA and FOM, Madring is preparing to welcome up to 110,000 spectators for its debut in the 2026 season.
