This part is being evaluated on the test bench, and it was initially estimated that the upgrade could represent up to 15 additional horsepower. However, expectations within the project have become more cautious, casting doubt on the actual size of the benefit.
The reduction in projections does not necessarily mean that the update has failed. Ferrari may also be trying to manage expectations before their home race, but the Monza circuit would allow for a particularly relevant evaluation due to the long straights and the importance of power and efficiency.
Therefore, Scuderia boss Fred Vasseur will have to consider not only the expected performance but also factors such as reliability, drivability, and the risks of introducing a revised component at an important stage of the season. For Hamilton and Leclerc, any gain could be relevant in the attempt to reduce the gap to Kimi Antonelli.

Hamilton himself stated after the Dutch GP that Ferrari needed to ‘increase the pressure on the competition.’ In this scenario, a turbocharger capable of delivering additional performance could help the team, although there is still doubt about how much of the initially projected advantage will actually be obtained.
The decision could also indicate the path chosen by Ferrari for the rest of the current season. If the new component is approved, Hamilton and Leclerc will have an opportunity to seek a performance gain on a circuit where power unit efficiency is important.
