Rob Smedley questioned some people at Ferrari about Lewis Hamilton’s decision to no longer use the team’s simulator in Formula 1. The former engineer revealed that many just ‘shrugged’ in response.

After the Miami GP, the seven-time world champion revealed that he will no longer use the Italian team’s simulator as preparation for race weekends. Since then, he managed to deliver a strong performance in Canada, finishing in second place, his best result with the team.
Commenting on the case on the High Performance podcast, Smedley revealed that he spoke with some people at Ferrari about the F1 seven-time world champion’s decision, but did not receive very deep answers. “I talked to some guys there who kind of shrugged when I asked about it,” he said.

“He said he didn’t – he refused to go work on the simulator in Canada. And that’s what gave him freedom, because he thinks the simulator might have been taking him in directions he didn’t like. So he said, ‘I’m not going to do that this time.’ And then, of course, he has a sample case. Suddenly, it’s statistically true that if you don’t go to the simulator, you’re on the podium.”
