David Coulthard will join the management structure of Alex Albon’s career in Formula 1. The former driver, winner of 13 GPs, will act as an additional mentor for the Williams driver as he continues his journey in the category.

The change expands the team responsible for guiding Albon, who continues to be managed by Jacques Heckstall-Smith, a former Red Bull employee and the Thai driver’s exclusive representative in recent years. According to RacingNews365, Heckstall-Smith will remain in his role, now supported by Coulthard, who also maintains a close relationship with the businessman.
The new partnership already showed signs of being underway during the Belgian GP weekend. On Friday, Coulthard was seen talking with Albon during FP1 at Spa-Francorchamps, a contact that reinforces his new role as the driver’s advisor. The two have known each other since the time Albon was with Red Bull, a team where Coulthard continues to serve as an ambassador, and they have also shared a commercial partnership in the past.

Albon left Red Bull at the end of 2020, was off the grid during the 2021 season, and returned to Formula 1 with Williams the following year. Since then, he has established himself as one of the team’s main drivers and, in 2025, helped the team achieve fifth place in the constructors’ championship alongside teammate Carlos Sainz, the best result for Williams in eight years.
The 2026 season, however, has been more challenging for Albon. The Williams car’s uncompetitive performance in the early stages of the championship caused the team to lose positions compared to the previous year’s performance, making the driver’s challenge even greater throughout the season.
