David Coulthard made a brief analysis of Max Verstappen’s participation in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and highlighted the ‘old school commitment’ of the four-time Formula 1 world champion in taking on the challenge.

The Red Bull driver made his debut at the Nordschleife last weekend. In a competitive race, he led the race, but a few hours before the checkered flag, he had a technical problem with his car and saw his chances of winning slip through his fingers.
Then, speaking to the Up to Speed podcast, Coulthard emphasized how dangerous and demanding the circuit is and how commitment is necessary to take on the challenge. “This is a scary track. I have been there and I know the level of commitment needed to be competitive, to be at the front like they were…”, he said.
“Unfortunately, we reported that a driver lost his life on this same track. That is the challenging nature of the circuit,” he continued.

“We should not just see this as something like: ‘Oh, Max loves driving, so he’s just having fun on the weekends.’ If it were just that, he could go to any of the FIA-regulated tracks, which are very similar to the current F1 tracks. But going there shows an ‘old school’ commitment, and that is what sets him apart from the others,” he continued.
“The others are technically very good drivers, no doubt. I would question if any other current F1 grid driver would accept the challenge of racing at Nürburgring,” he concluded.
