Formula 1 has a new highlight in 2026, but some comparisons are already generating debate. Former category driver, David Coulthard, dismissed parallels between Kimi Antonelli and Ayrton Senna, proposing another unexpected reference.

The young Mercedes driver took the championship lead after three rounds this year, boosted by consecutive victories in the Chinese and Japanese GPs. His strong performance quickly placed him among the most talked-about names on the grid, with comparisons emerging within the category’s paddock.
Coulthard, however, sees a different profile in the Italian and cited an icon from another category: “To me, he’s more like Valentino Rossi. For those who don’t follow MotoGP, Rossi was a generational talent, almost like an ‘eternal boy’,” he said about the multi-time MotoGP champion.

The former driver highlighted personality characteristics to justify his view, suggesting that Antonelli may follow a similar path in terms of style and behavior throughout his career.
The comparison, however, was not unanimous. F1 presenter and journalist, Will Buxton, disagreed, pointing out clear differences between the profiles. According to him, Rossi had a bolder and more striking personality, while Antonelli appears more reserved, yet equally charismatic within the Formula 1 environment.
