Franco Colapinto lost the biggest opportunity of his career so far at the Italian Grand Prix of Formula 1, held on Sunday (6). After reaching third position at the restart in Monza, the Alpine driver made a mistake at the first Lesmo corner, dropped to 15th, and missed a chance for a podium with the team. In the interview after the race, the Argentine could not hold back tears.

Speaking to ESPN and DAZN in Spanish after 53 laps, Colapinto admitted the weight of the mistake and got emotional in front of the cameras: “It could have been… a great race and a… huge mistake,” said the Alpine driver. “So… I wasted a very important opportunity for the team and for myself.”
Even with the recovery to ninth place, the Argentine made it clear that the final result did not match the potential he saw for his race in Monza: “So, a bit sad, but… I need to learn from this and keep fighting.”

Alpine finished the Italian GP with points for both its drivers, as Pierre Gasly, who started from pole position after a surprising qualifying, finished the race in seventh place.
