Alpine arrives at the Italian Grand Prix of Formula 1 this weekend with a new update package in search of more points. In the Netherlands, the team scored only two, a result considered below the potential shown by the car. The update used by Pierre Gasly will also be installed on Franco Colapinto’s car in Monza.

“We go to Monza following a positive return to racing — after the summer break — at the last round in Zandvoort. Actually, we were a bit disappointed in the end to leave there with only two points, because, reflecting and given the circumstances of Sunday’s race, probably more was possible,” said Steve Nielsen. “The update we took to Pierre’s car was good and worked as expected, and we are happy to bring it to Franco’s car this weekend in Monza. This should give us the basis to have both cars up there fighting for points, but we know we have more work to do to extract the maximum from our package.”
Monza brings good memories for both drivers. Gasly achieved his first Formula 1 victory on the Italian circuit in 2020, while Colapinto made his debut in the category there two years ago. The Argentine also arrives at the round after confirmation that he will continue with the team alongside the Frenchman next season.
“But for now, all focus is on Monza and our position in the championship. I made my F1 debut on this track, and it’s always a pleasure to race here in front of the Italian fans. This weekend will be my first with the new update package, which Pierre used in the last race, and I’m looking forward to using it from Friday and racing with it this weekend,” said Colapinto.

Gasly, who lives in Milan, also highlighted the special relationship with the Italian round: “I always love the Italian Grand Prix week for several reasons. First, Milan is where I live, so I can spend the week at home, which is always a luxury, given how often we travel. In a way, it’s a ‘home’ race for me! Second, I love the layout. It’s one of the most famous in Formula 1, known for pure speed, heavy braking zones, and incredible combinations of corners. And finally, of course, it’s where I achieved my first Formula 1 victory, in 2020.”
Gasly will not participate in Friday’s Free Practice 1. Paul Aron will take over his car for the second session for the team this season, after having replaced Colapinto in Budapest.
“I’m excited to drive again in Free Practice 1 with the team this weekend. I’m grateful to the team for giving me the opportunity to get back behind the wheel so soon. I was very pleased with my session in Budapest, and I hope to make the most of it this time, especially helping the team compare our latest update package, which I have already driven in the simulator,” concluded the young driver.
