Dan Towriss spoke about Cadillac’s relationship with Ferrari as GM intends to supply engines to the United States team starting from the 2029 Formula 1 season. The executive said that one front will not get involved with the other.

The team features Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas as drivers and debuted on the grid this season. In its first steps in motorsport’s premier category and also in the first year of new regulations, it chose to be a client of the Maranello Scuderia when it comes to engines.
However, GM has already revealed that it is developing its power units, is already ahead of schedule, and intends to become a supplier from 2029. Asked about how he expects the relationship with Ferrari to develop in this scenario, Towriss downplayed the concern.

“In terms of intellectual property, yes, everyone needs to bring their own intellectual property, right? Ferrari has theirs, and with the GM Performance Power Units group, which is part of the Formula 1 team, we are developing our own intellectual property,” he explained.
“We are developing our own engines and bringing our own product to the Formula 1 grid. Therefore, these will be completely separate activities. We will be a Ferrari customer team while we build our power units, and that will be GM’s work,” he added.
