Commentator Martin Brundle assessed that the 2026 Formula 1 title race remains open and could take on new dimensions after the April break, especially with potential developments from the top teams. Appearing on the Sky Sports F1 podcast, he highlighted that Ferrari needs to focus efforts on the power unit to take a step forward:

“I think this championship is wide open, and we will see with this forced spring break many changes when we get to Miami, and during the spring and summer,” he stated. “Because I think Ferrari will find a lot with its power unit, its energy management, and power delivery. I think they will improve a lot.”
The Italian team appears as Mercedes’ main competitor at the start of this season, with 90 points against 135, in addition to podiums in every race. Even so, it has not been able to sustain the fight for victory until the end of the races, despite fighting for the lead in Australia and China.

Mercedes, for its part, won the first three GPs and the Sprint in China, but according to Brundle, it should not relax. He even cited Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s performance in Japan as an internal warning sign. “Mercedes isn’t going to stand still either […] we have a challenge ahead, because these two teams are coming.”
Brundle also mentioned McLaren as another force in the race, highlighting the team’s confidence in evolving the car. “Between the top three teams, I think it’s going to be completely insane, and Ferrari will be right in the middle of it.”
