Several manufacturers reacted positively to the proposal. Brown stated that if the production cost of a competitive engine were significantly reduced, McLaren would be willing to consider manufacturing power units in Formula 1.

“I think if we had a financially viable engine formula, yes, we would consider it, as well as the technology. That said, we couldn’t be happier with Mercedes. If we are presented with a proposal that makes financial sense, then we will analyze it,” Brown told SBJ.
