Flavio Briatore made a brutally honest assessment of Alpine, saying that only Max Verstappen could make a noticeable difference in the team’s current phase in Formula 1.

During the team principals’ press conference in Monaco, the executive pointed out the French team’s position in the competitive order of the current world championship grid.

According to Briatore, Alpine’s gap to the top F1 teams is too large for any driver to overcome. “The driver is less important than the package,” he said.

“Of course, the driver makes a difference if you have a guy like Max, for example, he can give you two or three tenths of a second. But if you are seven or eight tenths behind, there is no driver who can make that difference,” he added.
