The Formula 1 Canadian GP in Montreal had already ended last Sunday (24), but the stewards still had decisions to make. Valtteri Bottas and Gabriel Bortoleto received 5-second penalties after the checkered flag, both for different infractions during the race.

Despite the penalties, the final race result remained unchanged. The Brazilian stayed in 13th position, while the Finn remained in 16th place, outside the points zone.
The case of the Cadillac driver drew attention due to the minimal difference recorded in the pit lane. The driver who returned to the grid in 2026 was clocked at 80.1 km/h during his pit stop, when the limit set at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve was 80 km/h. According to the stewards, the infraction of article B1.6.3a of the FIA regulations was proven by the official timing data.

The document released after the race highlighted that there is no tolerance margin for speeding in the pit lane. Although Bottas has the right to appeal, the decision was based on records considered clear by the race officials.
Bortoleto, on the other hand, was penalized for the opposite situation. The Audi Revolut F1 Team driver exceeded the Virtual Safety Car delta time in several mini-sectors, which means he drove below the minimum pace required by race control. After analyzing positioning data, the monitoring system, and timing, the stewards concluded that there was a violation of article B1.8.5 of the FIA sporting regulations, resulting in the same five-second penalty.
