Formula 1 may see a new internal change at Audi before the Miami GP. The team plans a restructuring and is expected to create the position of race director to strengthen its operation.

The decision comes after Jonathan Wheatley’s unexpected departure from the team’s command. Since then, Mattia Binotto has accumulated roles but had already signaled the need for support on race weekends.
According to behind-the-scenes information, Audi chose to seek the solution internally. The strongest name is Allan McNish, a three-time Le Mans 24 Hours champion and currently linked to the brand’s driver development program.
The choice also takes into account the Scot’s history with the manufacturer. McNish has already served as team principal in Formula E and maintains a close relationship with project leaders, which strengthens his position as a favorite.

The new position would play a central role in the sporting organization, including coordinating track operations and participating in media activities. The creation of the role comes after successive leadership changes since Audi’s announcement of its entry into F1.
Despite the instability behind the scenes, the start of the season brought positive signs on track. The team has two points and occupies eighth place in the constructors’ championship, with the duo formed by Nico Hülkenberg and Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto showing potential above initial expectations.
