Aston Martin had another day to forget in the 2026 Formula 1 season. In the qualifying session this Saturday (18) at the Belgian GP, the driver duo ended up in the last two positions on the starting grid.

Both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll started the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps in a complicated way, well off the pace of the rest of the field. In the timed session, the Spaniard was 21st and the Canadian 22nd.
“It was tough on track today during qualifying, but it was what we expected. We keep trying to do our best, as has been the case in the last ten races. We will make sure to maximize everything tomorrow and continue learning whatever we can to extract every drop of performance. Tomorrow, the goal will be to do everything within our reach at the highest level,” said Alonso.

“We made some changes before today’s qualifying and improved the car in some aspects. However, we didn’t get the perfect slipstream we were looking for, so we lost a few tenths there. Aside from that, the pace was what we expected for today. We know there isn’t much to fight for here. The goal is to get through this weekend and focus on what’s ahead in Budapest,” added Stroll.
