Aston Martin finished the 2026 Italian GP this Sunday (6) with no cars on the track. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll retired in Monza, in a race where the team once again felt the car’s limitations on the Italian circuit.

Stroll was the first to leave the race. The Canadian had to retire the car due to a hydraulic problem, but pointed out that Aston Martin was already struggling with pace before the retirement: “We had to retire the car with a suspected hydraulic issue, but we were already suffering in the race anyway. We know we don’t have the power we need at the moment and today was another proof of that. On paper, Madrid looks a bit better for us, so the focus now turns to that.”
Alonso also could not finish. The Spaniard suffered damage to the car after going off track. To avoid bigger problems, the team chose to end his participation.
“My race ended earlier today after I picked up some damage to the car hitting a curb. We decided to stop to ensure there was no further damage. Until then, I was battling with the Cadillacs and trying to get the most out of the car. Now we look to Spain next week and a new track for all of us.”

Aston Martin boss Mike Krack confirmed the two different causes for the retirements and admitted that the Monza circuit did not favor the team’s package. Now, the focus is on the next round, in Madrid.
“An early end for both cars in Monza today. A hydraulic issue forced Lance to retire, while Fernando picked up some damage to the car after running wide at turn seven. This circuit may not have favored our package, but we will take the data and learnings forward and hope to be more competitive in Madrid next weekend.”
